Osiris bed

Osiris, lord of the netherworld and of resurrection, was also the god who granted the return of vegetation and the harvest from year to year. This is why he was pictured with a green face, the color of luxuriant plant life. The “bed of Osiris” celebrates this aspect of the god. It is a brick with a hollow shaped as the silhouette of the god. The image was filled with earth and seeds. When the seeds germinated, they represented the resurrection of Osiris.
