Akh iqer en Re (“the excellent spirit of Re”) stelae depicted one or more individuals seated in front of an offering table, in the act of smelling a lotus flower. These stelae were found primarily in the first or second rooms of the houses in Deir el-Medina, where they stood in niches. Thanks to the power gained in the hereafter, the deceased, after becoming an excellent spirit, could act on behalf of his family when so beseeched.
