The composition on the stela of the sculptor Qen offers a vivid image of the ‘Opening of the Mouth’ ceremony, a funerary ritual performed in front of the tomb chapel. The entrance to the chapel can be identified by the pyramid, the pyramidion and the niche housing a stelophorous statue. The ritual is performed by the sculptor’s sons, Meryre and Hui, and his daughter, Taqri, is portrayed grieving over the loss of her father.
