Coffin probably for a cat

A carved wooden image, plastered and painted, of a seated female with a lion’s head wearing a tripartite wig; both hands are clenched on her lap. The eyes are inlaid in plaster. Based on parallels in bronze, the figure can be identified as the goddess Wadjet. The base of the throne is now empty, but it possibly contained a shrew, mongoose, snake or cat mummy. The base is missing but was once covered by textile of which fragments survive. There is some black resinous substance on parts of the figure. The throne is brightly painted on the side and back with criss cross patterns and a doorway in green, yellow, and red. It is possible that this was an ‘improvement’ created by a dealer.
