Cat. 2391
Wooden coffin in the shape of a fish with a dorsal fin, reminiscent of the Nile barbel (Cyprinidae barbus). It is set into a rectangular base with a dowel. The coffin is made from three pieces cut out of the same piece of wood. The coffin was sealed with plaster and the whole fish is dark brown. Twine is wrapped around the head and the base of the tail to further secure it. The sarcophagus contains a linen wrapped fish mummy.
The CT scans show a complete fish skeleton, the dorsal fin is visible. The body of the animal is wrapped in several layers of tissue. The identification is difficult, but it is most likely a juvenile Nile barb (Cyprinidae barbus).
