In the columns of hieroglyphs on the front of the throne, the goddess is described as “Sekhmet (the Powerful One) of the Thrones of the Two Lands”.
The original block was probably slightly too small, or had been damaged. A vertical mortise was hence cut into the back-pillar above the head for the insertion of a separately carved sun disk, a symbol of the Eye of the Sun, of which Sekhmet is the personification.
