The “bald one of Hathor” is a particular type of statue depicting a bald devotee of the goddess (although the head may actually be shaven). This one belongs to a minor official, a “guardian” (sauty) named Iner. He holds a particular type of rattle, called a “sistrum,” depicting the goddess with cow’s horns and a characteristic hairdo. The hand is brought to the mouth to beseech the faithful to place food offerings on it. Statues of non-royal individuals in temple courtyards thus sought a relationship not only with the gods, but also with the frequenters of these public spaces.
