Canopic jars were used to preserve the four internal organs (lungs, liver, stomach and intestines) taken out during the embalming process. One set consisted of four canopic jars, which were assigned to the four sons of the god Horus: Hapy, Amset, Duamutef and Qebehsenuef. The hieroglyphic inscriptions found on the vessel, bear the name of the deceased at the end of a protection formula: Amenemhab.
