Figure of Bes. The deity wears a feathered headdress, with the plumage finely detailed; the feathers rest upon a rectangular base. The face is characterised by furrowed brows, the nose flattened and snub, the tongue protrudes, and the beard is rendered in curls. Leonine ears are visible on either side of the head. Bes is shown wearing a lion’s skin, with the paws visible across the chest and flanks. A rounded form at the centre of the chest probably represents the lion’s head. The god is depicted naked, in a squatting position with his arms arched, the hands on his legs. The tail is connected to the base. On the back, a pierced and flat bronze protrusion projects from the back, and the back of the figure is hollowed. The cavity is filled with a compact, homogeneous earthy material, grey-brown in colour. The figure of Bes stands atop a plinth, which in turn rests on a hollow square base with a recessed profile. The remnants of four square-section casting channels are present beneath each side of the base, at the centre. The object is made in the lost-wax technique for solid casts.
