Model of a scribe’s palette

The parallel grooves stand for the pens in the penholder. The inkwells for black and red ink are replaced by two shen hieroglyphs (meaning “to encircle,” “circle”). The palette bears an offering formula for the “confidant of the Lord of the Two Lands, royal scribe, overseer of the northern foreign countries, Djehuty.”
