Isis Aegis

Aegis of Isis. The goddess wears a hathoric crown consisting of a uraeiform modius, surmounted by a solar disc with cow horns, inserted into the modius by means of a tenon. The goddess wears a plain tripartite wig decorated with a uraeus, the head of which is missing. The eyebrows are incised, and the eyes are recessed for inlay, now lost. Inside the head, a light grey metallic material is present, possibly lead. The menat counterpoise is missing. The wesekh collar is warped, with the left side and the upper right corner broken. Four registers are visible, the last three decorated with vegetal elements, probably leaves. On both the front and the rear, beneath the goddess’s head, a layer of bronze overlapping the collar area is visible; on the rear this layer is accompanied by filiform elements in relief. On the rear surface of the collar are two suspension loops composed of two bands. The object is made in the lost-wax technique. The collar is solid cast, while the head of the goddess is hollow.
