Aegis of Sekhmet with menat counterpoise. The goddess wears a convex solar disc decorated with a large uraeus. The ears are oval and detailed with fur, and the mane is decorated with radiating incisions. The eyes are in relief, the nose is broad, the pads for the whiskers are rounded, and the mouth is indicated by a faintly incised line. The goddess wears a tripartite wig decorated with vertical lines. Beneath the head is a wesekh collar, with two damaged falcon heads flanking Sekhmet’s head. The collar comprises eight decorated registers, alternating with plain bands. At the centre of the collar a lotus flower is incised, and beneath it a figurative plaque, though the decoration within cannot be identified. The rear surface of the collar is flat, at the bottom are two suspension loops composed of two bands. The menat counterpoise is lodged within the goddess’s head and is decorated. On the elongated portion of the counterpoise, Sekhmet is depicted in profile, crowned with the solar disc. She wears a full-length garment reaching the ankles, holds the wadj sceptre in her left hand, and is depicted within a small naos, above which a winged solar disc is represented. The naos is supported by two columns with Hathoric capitals. The elongated portion of the counterpoise is flanked by two nbw signs (Gardiner S12). On the terminal part of the counterpoise a sacred boat is depicted, with an aegis at the prow and one at the stern, placed upon a base. The object is made in the lost-wax technique for solid casts.
