Lamp with a figure of a Spinario. The handle is highly elaborate, with volutes reminiscent of vegetal motifs. At the centre, the Spinario grasps his left foot, which rests on his right thigh, while with his right hand he removes the thorn from the foot. The figure is seated on two volutes that connect to the handle structure. On the left side of the handle is a separately cast decoration: a disc surmounted by a cross. A small chain with tweezers and a spoon is attached to the left side of the handle. The body of the lamp is rounded; over the filling-hole is a perforated lid, to which a second lid—now missing—was fixed by a hinge and probably served to close the lamp. The nozzle is elongated and widens towards the end, with a concave circular area around the wick-hole. On the front of the nozzle is an irregular break. The foot of the lamp is flared, and at its centre is a square socket whose extension rises inside the reservoir, probably for mounting the lamp on a lampstand. The object is made in the lost-wax technique for hollow casts.
