Lamp in the shape of an elephant with its driver

Lamp in the form of an elephant with rider. The rider is naked and appears to be wearing a plain helmet. The face is round, with a broad nose and full lips. The right arm is broken and may originally have been raised, while the left arm rests on the knee. The elephant’s body forms the reservoir of the lamp. On its back is a square opening with a raised rim serving as the filling-hole. The elephant raises its trunk, which forms the nozzle, with a wick-hole at the tip. Horizontal lines suggest the folds on the underside the trunk. The eyes are large and set on the sides of the head; the ears are small and drop-shaped, and the tusks are rendered. The hair details are indicated by small notches. The legs are straight, and the tail is detailed to show the hair texture. The figure stands on a thin rectangular base. The object is made in the lost-wax technique for hollow casts.
