Ibis mummy

An ibis mummy wrapped to show the animal lying on its back with the beak resting on its ventral side and the legs drawn up to the body as if it were seated. The head is currently covered by undyed bandages, held in place with linen threads, sometimes doubled. Originally, another dark brown piece of textile covered this part, fragments of which are still visible. The colour simulated the colour of the beak of a living ibis. Six slightly overlapping layers of bandages encircle the ibis in a basic herringbone pattern at the tail. A larger bandage secures the edges of the herringbones. The bandages and string on the bottom are still visible - perhaps they were originally covered by another piece of linen. The CT scans show a complete skeleton of a young adult ibis. The animal is positioned on its back, with the head folded over the sternum, wings folded against the sides of the body, neck curved, and limbs flexed and collected close to the body. It was eviscerated. Some cloth is present in the thorax.
