Raptor mummy

A raptor mummy with undefined head and mummiform body, without feet. The ventral side was decorated with an elaborate pattern of bandages that are now damaged. Strips of the same fabrics frame the head of the mummy on a different background textile, giving the impression of a shawl over the head. It is possible that the beak and eyes were appliquéd. The dorsal side shows the inner fabric soaked with embalming agents and covered with an undyed textile overlapping the sides. Beneath the final, more elaborate wrappings, the bird was covered by a series of spiral bandages as well as swatches of cloth, held in place with linen thread.
CT scans show a complete skeleton of an adult raptor, most probably a kestrel (Falco tinnunculus). It was positioned lying on its back with the head turned to the left.
