Statue of the vizier Iymeru, son of the vizier Ankhu

Known from many sources, Iymeru held the office of vizier under three kings. His function is symbolized by the shenpu-collar, from which a seal possibly hung. He is represented in the traditional dress of late Middle Kingdom dignitaries, a long gown tied under the breast. The head, which is datable to the early New Kingdom on the grounds of style, originally belonged to another statuette. It was probably retouched and adapted to the body in the 19th century, when this kind of restoration of fragmentary statues was a common practice.
