Dog mummy

The ovoid jar contains some fragments of basketry/matting, texiles, skin, fur and disarticulated bones of a canine. The study of this find was particularly complex due to the confusing overlap of material inside the vase. The fur was yellowish, a common colour of Egyptian ‘baladi’ dogs. Some areas of the pelt are more brown, probably was this a piebald dog. It seems as if the dog was eviscerated, desiccated with natron, but it does not seem as it were anointed with oils.
