Colored glass inlays

Many wooden objects were decorated with inlaid glass. An example is this fragment of a piece of furniture from Tebtynis, in the oasis of Fayum, dating from the late Ptolemaic Period. Glass inlays were a typically Egyptian art. They were used to decorate objects of wood or stone. Boxes with inlaid glass pictures became widespread from the end of the Late Period onward. Inlaid glass hieroglyphs are typical of the Ptolemaic Period.
