Inside votive chapels, worshippers questioned the gods about their personal and public issues. Questions could be asked by addressing the statue directly or by writing on small ostraca (fragments of limestone or pottery). On the ostracon displayed here, a devotee asks a god: ‘Is it not true that there is an unworthy scribe in the temple?’.
