The tomb contained many small tubes, made of various materials such as reeds and glass, that were used as recipients for kohl, a substance made from soot, fat and antimony. Using a small stick, the cosmetic was applied to the eyelids and eyelashes, giving depth to the gaze and outlining the shape of the eyes. By mixing with moisture from the eyes, kohl acted as a filter against the rays of the sun and disinfected the eyes from fungi and irritations caused by heat and intense light.
